SOPA/PIPA NOT DOWN YET?

Friends-

Hollywood thinks Congress is on their leash: Motion Picture Association of America President Chris Dodd just threatened to cut off Hollywood campaign contributions to any member of Congress who doesn’t pass his Internet-censorship legislation.

After Congress shelved the controversial PIPA and SOPA bills, Dodd told Fox News:

“Those who count on quote ‘Hollywood’ for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who’s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don’t ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don’t pay any attention to me when my job is at stake.”

This is what corruption looks like in Washington. It’s outrageous that Dodd — himself a former senator — is leveling these threats. Our elected officials must send a signal back to Dodd and the rest of K Street that our nation’s laws can’t be bought.

It’s time that Congress showed that its votes are no longer for sale. Congress must give back the MPAA’s dirty money or give it to charity. Congress must make it clear to the world that it won’t be bullied into supporting censorship.

STOP ACTA!

SOPA and PIPA may be dead in the US, but a global threat still exists: ACTA.

All of the things that you and I enjoy about using the Internet, like the ability to speak freely and widespread access to information, is under threat with a dangerous new international treaty, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. This intellectual property agreement, which has already been signed by eight countries, will force ISPs and websites to track our every move, turn over our personal information, and report our activity to the government, all in the name of copyright protection.

ACTA will soon make its way to the European Parliament for a full consent vote. If approved, people around the world will have their fundamental rights decimated. Without EU approval, ACTA will have go back to the drawing board and force countries to renegotiate the treaty. The parliament MUST vote “No” on ACTA!

I’ve already signed Access’ petition about this issue and I think you should too. The world is watching, and we need to demand that members of the European Parliament show true global leadership and oppose this outrageous measure.

PSA: Ignoring Ignorees

If someone is being a griefer, just /ignore them and forget about them. If someone is being slanderous about your friends, saying things you know aren’t true, tell them you won’t stand for it before /ignore-ing them.

If they come back to cause you trouble later on FOR ignoring them, it’s best to tell others, and ask the griefer to stop before /ignoring them again,

All in all: If someone is being a general “BLUH BLUH HUGE JERK”  just /ignore them and Forget about them.

NEVERMIND ALL THIS! IT’S DONE! SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today!! (that is to say, January 20th, not the 19th! XD)

Where and when: On February 8th, 14:00 KI time, in the Heritage Night’s Hood.

Heritage Nights will be holding a Reopening Special event for the Return to the Cavern anniversary week.

We are seeking guest hosts who are willing to step up on stage and tell one of their favorite memories of the cavern, be it from Prologue, MO:UL1, or MO:ULa. The main event will be led by Calum, recapping the return to the cavern back in early 2010. Step up to the microphone and tell your best stories!

This is it folks, You’ll note that the HN Scheduled for that Sunday isn’t on the list. That’s because I asked for it not to be. The Special HN is out of sequence when compared to the MOUL Nights, and so I asked for it to not be there. However, I’m considering asking for it to be added back in, just because “why not?”

Anyways!

The Special HN is planned roughly for 30 Minutes, Short I know! But It’s a Special HN and isn’t part of the regular schedule. At most, the actual history I myself will be telling will take up to 5 minutes minimum, maybe slightly more. This is why I’m calling out here! I want your stories!

Let’s make this Special HN as Special as possible!

Anyways: A reminder on our current schedule: Heritage Night is in the Heritage Night Hood this Sunday, Continuing off of the fast paced drum beat of the Prologue Nights! I am looking for HOSTS for the remaining blank weeks on the schedule, seen via the link in the header at the top of this page, and Ushers for the remaining weeks I am hosting.

Although Ushering isn’t as much of a concern anymore since my Dad had the brilliant idea of making a dedicated avatar for ushering and thus now actually has a reason for coming to my weekly event here, He still can’t do it every week I ask him to. He has a life, ya know! So I’d like to have backup ushers in play just in-case he can’t help out. (Be sure to give ANY Usher for Heritage Night a /thanks whenever you see them! It’s a tough job, but it doesn’t have to be thankless!)

Strike Over

I’ve reverted HN back to normal…ISH…

I’ve pulled off a few Site adjustments during the Blackout, which, thanks to the simplified color scheme (BLAPK), I was able to adjust the sidebar without any interference from the Background. Also: I changed the banner to a different version as well, one I made around the same time as the last one.

ANYWAYS: SOPA and PIPA now have enough opposition to them that, if they pass law and the President VETOs them, they won’t be able to be over-ridden.

So, If you think Obama should VETO the bills if they come to his desk, please use this elegant and finely crafted Link right there.

Honestly? I haven’t been much of a fan of Obama his whole term, but if he VETOs SOPA and PIPA should they pass?

He’d be my choice President of the year, right there.

Hell, Know what? It’d make up for all of the rest of his term too.

Better make that President of the Millennium…
